Last weekend (23 July 2016, Saturday) we escaped from the city of Jakarta (and its malls) into a luscious greenery of BSP Organic Farm, just 45 minutes outside of Bogor. As we arrive, the morning mist was still covering the whole farm so it was quite cold, but we quickly got settled as we were welcomed by a warm breakfast & steaming hot coffee!

Then, we started the farm introduction, led by Pak Daryanto & Pak Usaha, the two most senior staff at the BSP Farm. With a warm smile, Pak Dar welcomed us and explained about the philosophy behind the organic way of farming. His passionate explanation really touched us because we can see that he spoke from his heart. Everyone at the farm believes that the condition of their heart has a huge effect on what the farm will produce. Nature is just, you get out what you put in, he said wisely. After the briefing session we walked to the farming area where we learn each of the steps of farming, from compost making, nurturing the seedling, digging techniques, as well as making home-made non-chemical pesticides. We had so much fun during the whole process because of the hands-on activities such as doing the double digging technique as well as planting our own plants in a take-home pot.

The afternoon soon came and it was time for us to say goodbye to the farm & its beautiful view of Mount Salak. Then, we thanked Pak Dar & Pak Usaha for sharing their wisdom, and one by one we boarded our minibus. We exchanged our heartfelt stories along the way home to Jakarta of how a trip to the organic farm has touched us so much. It was truly a weekend well spent with like-minded new friends.
