About The Workshop
Hi Learners! Japanese Shikishi is a specially prepared square paper affixed to a hard backing. It is traditionally used for sumi ink, calligraphy, and watercolor, but you can use it for anything you want to add a little Asian spice to.

Here you will learn the basic of Sumie and learn to paint Hydrangeas on a Shikishi board.
ABOUT THE TEACHER(S)
Sumi means Ink and Monogatari means story in Japanese.
Narako sumigatari is a studio that specializes in teaching the art of traditional eastern style brush painting, particularly but not limited to Sumi E, the Japanese ancient art of ink Painting. The class is open for beginner and intermediate artists alike, in addition to learning the techniques of brush painting, the class will also casually explain the philosophy behind this centuries old tradition. The founder of Narako Sumigatari Studio wishes not only to popularize Sumi E painting as a hobby in Indonesia, but also as an alternative method for meditation and self healing therapy.
