About The Workshop

Hi Learners! Etegami is an intuitive, colorful folk art consisting of simple Sumi ink drawings paired with a few thoughtful words and  Gansai (Japanese Watercolor), typically drawn on postcards or on Washi paper to be used as letters. The name comes from the Japanese word 絵 (e), which means “picture,” and 手紙 (tegami), which means “letter.”

The Etegami Famous Motto is “Heta de ii, Heta ga ii” ( roughly Translated: It`s Fine to be clumsy. In fact, the best Etegami are clumsy!) Encourage by this Motto, more and more ordinary Folk-people who don`t think of themselves as “artists”- both young and old, have taken up Etegami as an enjoyable and relaxing pastime.
